If you have developed a crack in one of your teeth, then visit Dr. Neal Vavra and Dr. Ricky Chung as soon as possible for cracked tooth treatment. When our dentist repairs the tooth while the crack is still small, then he can prevent more serious dental problems from developing. Contact Palm Court Dental today if you would like to learn more about our cracked tooth treatment.
Some types of cracks commonly found in teeth include the following:
- Fractured Cusp: This occurs when a piece of the tooth’s chewing surface breaks off. Usually the pulp tissue inside of the tooth is unaffected and the only symptoms are increased sensitivity and some pain. We may repair the tooth with a filling or a crown.
- Cracked Tooth: This occurs when a crack starts in the tooth’s chewing surface and extends down. A root canal procedure is commonly used to repair the tooth. However, if the crack has spread below the gum line, then the only treatment solution may be extraction.
- Split Tooth: If a cracked tooth remains untreated, then it can spread until the tooth splits into segments. Extraction is usually the only treatment option, though a root canal can save portions of the tooth in certain cases.
- Vertical Root Fracture: This occurs when a crack begins in the root of the tooth and extends upward. Extraction may be in order unless the crack is caught early on and is treated with a root amputation.
If one of your teeth has developed a crack, then we invite you to visit our practice as soon as possible for care. Call us today if you want to learn more about cracked tooth treatment.
