Rinsing is an effective oral hygiene task that many people forget. This is a mistake because rinsing can complete the smile-cleaning job and reach areas of your mouth that your toothbrush and floss could not reach. So, please include rinsing in your daily oral hygiene routine. You only need to rinse once a day. To help you do so, Dr. Neal Vavra and Dr. Ricky Chung has some instructions for you.

First, grab the best rinse for your smile. This could be fluoride, antibacterial, or antiseptic mouthwash. It’s important that it is approved by the American Dental Association. That way you’ll know that it is safe and effective for your smile.

Second, check the instructions on the bottle. This will help you know how much time to swish, which should be about 30-60 seconds. Then, pour the desired amount of rinse into the bottle cap or into a different cup. Only pour the amount you feel comfortable swishing. Next, pour the rinse into your mouth and swish for the recommended amount of time. When the time passes, spit the liquid into the sink.
