To help you know a little more about the mineral that can help your smile, which is fluoride, Dr. Neal Vavra and our dental team have provided answers to fluoride FAQs right here on this blog.
What is fluoride?
Fluoride is a mineral that originates in many natural resources, like certain foods and water, especially water that flows out of your kitchen tap. This mineral can strengthen your chompers and keep them in top-notch condition. It can also help you avoid cavities and tooth sensitivity that is promoted and caused by enamel erosion.
How can I get fluoride?
You can help your pearly whites with fluoride by consuming tap water regularly (cities usually fluoridate their water to benefit their residents), using toothpaste that contains fluoride, using fluoride supplements, and receiving a fluoride treatment at our office.
What is a professional fluoride treatment?
A professional fluoride treatment is provided after your six-month checkups. Dr. Neal Vavra and our team will use a foam, gel, or varnish treatment and will place the fluoride on your teeth or fill a tray with fluoride and place it in your mouth. You will then wait and the fluoride will seep into your teeth and strengthen the outer shell, which is also called the enamel. Once the treatment is over, you will rinse your mouth with refreshing water.
